Who We Are
We are a growing community of Cornellians with diverse political perspectives, united by passion and a commitment to thoughtful dialogue on today’s most pressing political and philosophical questions.
The Cornell Political Union has long existed as a forum for students to engage in both discourse and mutual learning through the medium of debate
Speaker Events
We invite experts to discuss topics in their field, arguing for or against the resolution and giving members content to consider during our floor debates. In just the last few years, our events have featured the former U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Roberta Jacobson; the leader of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, Wang Dan; former U.S. Army Chief of Staff George Casey; and Tea Party co-founder Michael Johns, among many others.
Open motions
When we don’t have a visiting speaker, members tackle a diverse range of issues among ourselves.
Caucus events
Education happens within the context of a larger community. Our approach extends beyond the school to help ensure students have the necessary support to do their best learning.
Giving Day
Giving Day is the largest fundraiser event for Cornell students and helps our Union in maintaining its mission of encouraging civil debate and inviting distinguished speakers. Every donation during this 24-hour window is matched.
