The eboard is dedicated to listening to the desires of CPU's membership and making the best decisions for the organization. The eboard is comprised of a diverse group of thinkers who try to make themselves as accessible as possible to both members and interested students.

Michael Johns

President

Michael is from Oakton, Virginia studying Government. He has studied China and East Asia at the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) and counterterrorism and U.S. strategy in the Middle East and North Africa at the Middle East Forum (MEF), and has authored analysis of U.S. defense issues and liberal bias in mainstream media as an editorial intern at the National Journalism Center (NJC). In 2018, he interned in the Office of Legislative Affairs at the White House. At Cornell, he is the president emeritus of the Cornell University College Republicans and writes a regular opinion column in the Cornell Daily Sun.

Michael Gelb

Events Director

Michael is a sophomore from Bedford, New York, majoring in Human Development and double minoring in Inequality Studies and Law and Society. Michael interned for Nonviolence International-NY, a UN-accredited NGO, in 2018. He is also involved in a group that mentors incarcerated youth, is an active member of a research lab that analyzes and codes jury selections in death penalty cases in South Carolina, and is the co-captain of a Cornell club soccer team.

mASON woODS

Vice President of Public Relations

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Mason is double majoring in Government and Philosophy and double minoring in Business and European Studies. Mason interned for Battleground Texas in 2016, conducted research for a Venture Capital firm in 2017, and was an investment banking summer analyst in 2018 in New York City. He has been involved with the Beto campaign and is also a project manager in the Cornell Venture Capital Club.

Henry Lavacude-Cola

Vice President of Recruitment

Henry is a sophomore from Huntington Beach, California, double majoring in History and Near Eastern Studies and minoring in International Relations.  In addition to his role in CPU, Henry is an Undergraduate Editor for the Cornell International Affairs Review.  He has interned with Kingston Technology’s Legal Department and spent last year working with the organization KidWorks to organize and teach public speaking courses for middle school students.  An avid backpacker, Henry spent the summer dragging his friends to national parks across the American Southwest.

Jason Katz

Vice President of Finance

Jason is a junior from Pleasantville, New York double majoring in Economics and Mathematics and minoring in Law and Society. He has worked as an intern for NYS Assemblyman David Buchwald, a research assistant for the Labor Dynamics Institute Replication Project, and also an intern for Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney. On Cornell’s campus, Jason is a writer for the economic newsletter InRealTerms, a member of the Israel Engagement Committee at Hillel, and a tutor in the Math Support Center.

Alexis Fintland

Secretary

Alexis is a sophomore from Orange County, California, studying Industrial and Labor Relations and double minoring in Public Policy and Law & Society. Alexis has interned for Senator Kamala D. Harris in her Washington D.C. office and also served as an intern for the premier trial and litigation law firm, Hueston Hennigan LLP. Outside of the Cornell Political Union, Alexis is a member of the Cuban American Student Association as well as one of Cornell’s pre-law fraternities, Phi Alpha Delta.
